Tonto Natural Bridge State Park –
Located 10 miles north of Payson on Hwy 87 on the edge of the Mogollon Rim. The world’s largest known natural travertine bridge can be viewed from three trails.

Rim Country Museum –

Located in Green Valley Park on the grounds of the original forest ranger station. It is operated by the Northern Gila County Historical Society and is a fun and informative way to learn about the area’s history.

Zane Grey Cabin & Museum –
Currently under construction with plans to open during the summer of 2005. Located in Green Valley Park in Payson, the Zane Grey Cabin will be the exact duplicate of the original cabin owned by Zane Grey.

Tonto Creek Fish Hatchery –
Self-guided tours are available daily at this hatchery managed by Arizona Game & Fish. Located on Forest Service Road 289 in Tonto Creek.

Fossil Creek –
Bordered by some of Arizona’s most scenic wilderness, Fossil Creek’s artesian springs begin just west of Sycamore Canyon and the pine-clad Mogollon Rim. Prehistoric fossils embedded in many of the area’s rocks remind visitors of a fascinating world that existed long before today’s civilization. The creek ends a few miles north of where the east fork of the Verde River makes its way through the Tonto National Forest. To discover Fossil Creek, drive north from Payson to Strawberry, then turn onto Forest Road 708 which is labeled Fossil Creek Road.

 

Mazatzal Casino –
Operated by the Tonto Apache Tribe, this casino offers gaming, bingo, video games, slots, a restaurant, and a gift shop to all who visit. Mazatzal Casino is open 7 days a week, 24 hours a day and is located _ mile south of Payson on Hwy 87.

Strawberry Historical Schoolhouse –
Built in 1885, the school held classes until 1916. Visitors are welcome on weekends from May to September to this Arizona State Historical Site. Located in Strawberry, AZ on Fossil Creek Road.

Tonto National Forest –
Payson is surrounded by the ponderosa pines of this forest that boasts more than 860 miles of hiking trails. Picnic areas and campgrounds are available but may be subject to fire restrictions during late spring and summer.
